Pose Practice
UTTHITA TRIKONASANA - Triangle Pose
Benefits: Teaches alignment and a sense of
direction. Tones the leg muscles, relieves
stiffness in the legs and hips. Strengthens the ankles and develops the chest.

Try It!
- Start in Tadasana (Mountain Pose).
- Bring your hands up in front of your
chest. Inhale, jump the feet 4 feet apart and stretch the arms out to
the sides, shoulder- height.
- Turn the feet to the right: Right
foot out 90 degrees, left foot in 15 degrees.
Right heel in line with the left arch.
- Rotate the right thigh out so that
the right kneecap points directly upward. Rotate the left thigh out.
Relax the shoulders and stretch out through the fingertips.
- Exhale, bend at the right hip,
reach out with right arm and extend the right side of body. Bring right palm
or fingertips to the outer right leg or place the hand on a block. Left arm
is straight up over left shoulder with palm facing forward.
- Keep the thighs rotated out and the
kneecaps lifted. Balance the weight on both feet equally:
inner/outer balls, inner/outer heels. Keep sacrum down and tailbone in.
Keep moving the right hip to the left and bring right sitbone forward
in line with the right knee. Stretch both sides of the body. Lift the
breastbone and roll the shoulders back, down and in. Bring the breastbone
perpendicular to the floor. Stretch out through both arms, Turn the
neck and head, look up at the left hand or straight ahead.
- Inhale, push down through both
feet, pull through the left arm to come up. Turn the feet forward parallel
to each other. Repeat pose to the left.
